Privacy policy
Last updated 5 September 2026
overlander.events is run by Danan Enterprises Inc., a Florida corporation based in Clearwater, Florida. This page explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it. It is written in plain English on purpose.
The short version
We collect your email address if you give it to us, either to reach an event's ticket page or to submit an event. We use it to send you the overland event calendar. We do not sell it, rent it, or trade it. You can leave the list at any time with the unsubscribe link on any email we send.
What we collect
- Your email address, when you enter it to reach an event's ticket page, along with which event you were heading to.
- Event details and your email address, when you submit an event through the "Add an event" form.
- Standard server records, kept by our host for security and abuse prevention. These include your IP address, browser type, and the pages you request. We do not use them to build a profile of you.
We do not ask for your name, your address, or payment details, and this site never takes a payment. When you buy a ticket you do that on the event organizer's own site, under their terms and their privacy policy, not ours.
Why we collect it
To send you the event calendar and occasional notes about overland events, to review and publish events people submit, and to keep the site working and free of abuse. That is the whole list.
Cookies
We use one cookie of our own, called ol_pass. It is set when you give us your email at a ticket link and it remembers that you already did, so we do not ask you twice. It lasts one year, holds no personal information, and is not used for advertising or tracking you across other sites. Clearing your browser cookies removes it.
Our host, Cloudflare, may set its own cookies to protect the site from attacks and bots. Those are security cookies, not advertising cookies.
There is no advertising pixel and no analytics tracker on this site today. If we add analytics later, this page gets updated before it goes live.
Who we share it with
We do not sell or rent your information. We share it only with the services that make the site run:
- Brevo, which stores our mailing list and sends our emails.
- Google Sheets, where submitted events are held for review, and where a captured address is written if our mailing list provider is unreachable.
- Cloudflare, which hosts the site and serves it to you.
Two parts of the site load content from other companies, which means those companies see your IP address when you use them: Google Fonts serves the site's typeface, and OpenStreetMap serves the map tiles on the Map view. Neither receives your email address.
We will also hand over information if the law genuinely requires it.
How long we keep it
We keep your email address until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Submitted events stay in our records so we know what we published and who told us about it. Server records age out on our host's normal schedule.
Your choices
- Unsubscribe using the link at the bottom of any email we send. That stops the emails immediately.
- Ask us what we hold about you, and we will tell you.
- Ask us to delete it, and we will, unless we are required to keep it.
- Correct it if it is wrong.
Email [email protected] for any of these. We answer within 30 days and we do not charge for it.
If you live in California
California law gives you the right to know what personal information we collect, to have it deleted, to correct it, and not to be treated worse for asking. We do not sell or share your personal information as those terms are defined by the CCPA, and we have not in the previous twelve months. We do not knowingly handle the personal information of anyone under 16. Use the email address above to make a request.
If you live in the UK or the European Economic Area
Our legal basis for sending you the calendar is your consent, given when you hand over your address. You may withdraw it at any time by unsubscribing. You also have the right to access, correct, delete, or port your data, and to complain to your local data protection authority. Note that the site is operated from the United States, so your information is processed there.
Children
This site is meant for adults planning trips and events. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has given us an address, email us and we will remove it.
Security
The site is served only over an encrypted connection, and the keys to our mailing list and spreadsheet are stored as secrets rather than in the site's code. No system is perfect, so we do not promise the impossible, but we do not hold anything about you beyond an email address and it is treated carefully.
Changes
If we change this policy we update the date at the top. Material changes to how we use your email address will be announced on the list before they take effect.
